LO1 Task 1

A) Programme types

Sheffield Live is very focused of the community and keeping it held together.

Sheffield Live! is owned by Commedia Sheffield.

They provide a lot of different unique shows, so there is something for everyone.

Some of their programs include the Max Chance Show, Swing Time, My Kinda Place, Gamers Rule Radio and Da Beat Down

B) Genres

The genres that Sheffield ! broadcast are reggae, ragge, jungle, Asian pop, traditional pop, Latin, African, dance, RnB, indie pop, discussion and chat. Sheffield Live play a wide range of genres is so the audience will find something they like. Africa Beat plays African music from East to West, North to South, ancient to modern; from golden oldies to the latest release. Walk a Mile In My Shoes / The Golden Years plays mostly Elvis Presley and some other classic rock and roll music. Dubcentral Live play Reggae Roots Dub & UK Steppas. They also have non music shows such as news, talk shows, educational programmes and documentaries. The reason that Sheffield Live! cover so many genres is because they want to cater for a large range of audiences.

C) Audienec Profiles

Sheffield Live as a whole station cates for people in the C2, D and E. The specific places they are most listened to in Sheffield are Crookes, Central, Manor and Gleadless. The people that live in these areas are in the middle/lower class. So they are very community basied and want to help the community so they listen to Sheffield Live!. The radio show I will be looking at is Dubcental Live. Because the radio show has a specific genre of music it will have a specific target audience. Their main target audience is 15-25 year olds. That enjoy Dubstep and going out to raves. . This is because the stereotypical dubstep listener is middle class. Obviously Dubstep appeal to a range or different audiences but there are a specific group where most of the listeners are in. The category they fit into is C1, C2, D and E.

D) Production Process
The first step in making the radio show is pre-production here are some of the things that happens in pre-production:
Scripting
Sorting out music to play on the show
Making a time line of the show
Team meetings to decide the running orders
Organising advertisements and sponsorship
Editing vox pops that will be played
Layering music behind the content
Researching the latest topics about the show
Creating a treatment
Then this will be done in production:
Live broadcasting
Mixing deck
Faders to introduce new content
Vox pops
Finally these things will be done in post-production.
Editing out the content that doesn't fit with Ofcom’s regulations, so the show can go on Sheffield Live!'s website
Broadcasting sound effects
The different parts of the department work together to create the shows. The script writers will have to work together with the presenters to make sure the scrip sounds natural and that the presenters understand what they are saying. The advertising team will want to put adverts on at peak times where the most people are listning in the day, this will impact on scheduling. So these things will have to be thought of in pre production.

E) Market share

The main competitors of Sheffield Live! are Hallam FM and BBC radio Sheffield. They are competitors because they are successful and are based in Yorkshire and Sheffield live are too. They are also competitors because they have similar target audience. But Sheffield Live! have a weekly audience reach of 11% this is 32,000 adults out of 275,000. This is information from TSA Data like this clearly shows that Sheffield Live! are successful with what they do. This is very good considering that they are an independent, community radio show that's non-profit.
